Mr. Arthur Thomas Baker

Arthur T. Baker

Arthur Thomas Baker, 81 of Pineville, passed away on Monday, July 16, 2007 at the Baptist Regional Medical Center in Corbin. He was born in Pineville on September 6, 1925, a son of the late Thomas and Cora Scalf Baker. He was a member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church and retired from the Bell County School System where he had been a school teacher and school social worker. He had also served on the Bell County School Board for 12 years. Mr. Baker served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Connie Baker, Willie Baker, Lindsey Baker, Johnny Baker, Ruby Bullington, Eula Mae Bruner and Mable June Thompson.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Chastine Goodin Baker, son, Marvin Clifton Baker and his wife, Suzanne; grandchildren, Whitney Lee Baker, Justin Christian and Mathew Christian; sisters, ChloEva Clark and Norma Jean Meredith and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 1:00 PM Friday at the Ebenezer Baptist Church with Rev. Keith Bays and Rev. Terry Cox. Music will be by the Church Choir. Burial will be in the Pineville Memorial Cemetery with pallbearers, Shelton Evans, Nicholas Evans, Jessie Barton, Travis Barton, David Goodin, John Golden, Earl Hammons and Jacob Martin. Military honors will be presented by the American Legion Dewey Guy Post 14, Middlesboro.

The family will receive friends after 6 PM Thursday at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home, Pineville.
