Essie Owens

June 15, 1919 - May 19, 2008

Essie Marie Rhodes Owens, 88, passed away on Monday, May 19, 2008 at the Pineville Community Hospital. She was born in Bell County on June 15, 1919, a daughter of the late Jasper L. Rhodes and Tella Hoskins Rhodes. She was saved when she was 20 years old and was a member of the Greasy Creek Baptist Church for 63 years. She worked in quality control for Bendix Corporation in Cincinnati for 10 years and Mercury Instruments in Cincinnati on Quality Control for 9 years. She retired from Mercury Instruments in 1979, at which time she returned to Bell County. She was a member of the Eastern Star, Chapter 89 of Pineville for 45 years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Owens, son, Donald R. Owens, three brothers, Leonard Rhodes of Pineville, Vernal (Wade) Rhodes of Corbin and Kenneth Rhodes of Pineville, brother-in-law, Virgil Vanover and niece, Donna Beth Sears.

Survivors include two sisters, Nannie Rhodes Vanover of Benham, KY and Angelena Rhodes Sears and husband, Sherman, of Corbin, KY; grandchildren, Donna Owens Lambdin of Pineville and Mark W. Owens of Harrogate; great-grandchildren, Jan Michael Lambdin, Will Terrance Lambdin, Marka Owens and Maranda Owens; nieces, Geraldine Vanover Boggs and Carol Vanover Howard; nephews, Leonard Rhodes, Jr., Ronnie Vanover and Darrel Stephen Rhodes of Lexington, KY.

Funeral Information

Services will be at 8 PM Wednesday at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home with Rev. Terry Cox and Will Terrance Lambdin. Music will be provided by Carolyn Hembree. Eastern Star Services will be at 7:45 PM Wednesday.

Burial will be in the Pineville Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mark Owens, Jan Michael Lambdin, Will Terrance Lambdin, Herman Lambdin, Leonard Rhodes, Jr., Ronnie Vanover and Lance Boggs. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Steven Morgan, Lester Bingham and David Messer.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 PM Wednesday at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home, Pineville.
