Virgil Washam

October 15, 1921 - November 11, 2009

Virgil “Tub” Washam, 88, of Pineville, passed away on Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at the Claiborne County Hospital. Born in Knox County, KY on October 15, 1921, he was the son of the late Proctor and Mattie Leddington Washam. He was a believer in the Holiness Faith and had served in the United States Army during World War II. He had been a greens keeper at the Pine Mountain State Park where he was loyal employed for over 30 years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 51 years, Mary Wolfenbarger Washam, daughter, Goldie McNamara, son, Billy Washam, grandson, David Carver, great-granddaughter, Jennifer Gibson, brothers and sisters, Johnny P. Washam, Herb Washam, Roberta Lasure and Ann Washam.

Survivors include his children, Fred (Mary) Carver, Clayton Washam, Carolyn Washam and Connie (Thurman) Smith, sisters and brothers, Roy Washam, Jim Robert Washam, Walter B. Washam and Imogene Jones, grandchildren, Peggy (Frankie) Haynes, Donald (Miranda) Carver, Linda (Johnny) Smith, Charles (Shannon) Haley, Charlene (James) Short, Amy (Bobby) Teague, Autumn (Alec) Lloyd, Christopher Washam, a host of great-grandchildren whom he loved very much and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral Information

Services will be at 11:00 Am Saturday at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Wallsend Cemetery, Pineville with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Roy Washam will be the honorary pallbearer.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 9 PM Friday at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home, Pineville, which is honored to served the Washam Family.
