W.S. Baker, Jr. Walter Scott “W.S.” Baker, Jr., 80 of Pineville passed away on November 29, 2008 at Oak Tree Acute Care Hospital in Corbin. He was born in Arjay on August 2, 1928 a son of the late Walter Scott, Sr. and Mary Ann Messer Baker. He was a United States Marine Corps veteran and was a retired conductor for the L & N/CSX Railroad. W.S. was a member of the First Baptist Church of Pineville, the Pineville Lions Club and the United Transportation Union, and had served on the Pineville City Council and also served as Mayor Pro-Tem, and was a co-chair for the Pineville Water System Board and the Ethics Board. He loved people and never met a stranger and was always willing to help anyone in need.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Eloise Putnam Baker, sister, Nora Davis and brother, Robert Baker.
Survivors include his children, Michael Baker and wife, Norma of Calvin, Terry Baker and wife, Janice of London and Mona Baker and fiance, Ken Norman of Taylorsville, NC; grandchildren, Ashley and Jeff Landrum, Terry and Kendra Baker, Tiffany Baker, Stephanie Harris and Joseph and Ashley Harris; great-grandchildren, Bailey Landrum, Kayley Baker, Haley Baker, Alexis Wise and Ava Grace Harris; brother, George Baker of Oakridge, TN, special friends, children of Georgia and the late Clyde Robbins, Billy Robbins and Andy Williams and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral Information
Services will be at 2PM on Wednesday at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home with Rev. Ron Howard. Music will be by Stephanie Harris. Burial will follow in the Pineville Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Joseph Harris, II and Terry Baker, II; Leroy Robbins, Charlie Simpson, Bobby Widener and Ken Spears. Honorary pallbearers will be Brother-in-law, Lacy Martin, Dr. & Mrs. Emanuel Rader, Robert L. Madon, Dr. Leo Taylor and Dr. Jerry Woolum.
