Fred Lee Bishop

Fred Lee Bishop Fred Lee Bishop was born on March 25, 1925 in Montgomery, Alabama and went home to be with the Lord on March 24, 2008, at the Pineville Community Hospital and was one day short of his 83rd birthday. He was preceded in death by his parents and his grandmother, Irene Tice, who raised him. He was also preceded in death by his youngest son, Edward Bishop, “Eddie.”
He migrated to Kentucky at an early age to seek employment and in hopes for a better life. He attended school in Montgomery, Alabama. He was a faithful member of the Bethel Baptist Church where at the time of his death for many years he was the Chairman of the Deacon Board, a member of the Sunday school, a devotional leader, and a member of the London District Church Association of Ministers and Deacons where he provided exemplary church leadership and served as their treasurer. He took great pride in serving on Ordination Committees for Ministers and Deacons where he continued to mentor young men in Christian discipleship. As a devotional leader his favorite hymns were: “This Little Light of Mine” and “Everything’s Going To Be Alright.” He was a Mason. He received many district church awards for his dedication and leadership. He took great pride in his roles as a Christian, husband, and father. His friendliness and humbleness were untouchable. He truly loved his church, family, the town of Pineville, and UK basketball. Everyone loved to hear him talk in his “down home” southern accent.
He worked hard for many years to provide for his family. His job took him to Kingsport, Tennessee and Hot Springs, Virginia. He worked for 17 years for the L&N Railroad Company, IBM in Lexington, a Volunteer Fireman for the Pineville Fire Department, First State Bank, First Federal Savings and Loan, and as a veterinarian’s assistant. He retired with 25 years of outstanding service for the Kentucky Utilities Company. He was also the co-owner of Bishops Day Care for 25 years with his wife.
He leaves to mourn his passing his wife of 60 years, Inez Bishop, and their six children: Lee (Dorothy) Radcliff, KY; Marie Bishop, Pineville, KY; Elaine Bishop Trent (Bruce) Lexington, KY; Fred (Jane) Lexington, KY; Jennifer Bishop, Cincinnati, OH, and Jan Bishop Phipps (John II) Cincinnati, OH. Grandchildren: Edward Bishop, Jr. “Toby” Lexington, KY; Stacy and Robert Bishop, Radcliff. KY; Jamie and John Phipps III Cincinnati, OH; and Christian Trent, Lexington, KY. Special friends include: James “Smitty” Smith, Bobby Ray Hendrickson and Glenn Thomas, Cincinnati, OH
Funeral Information
Services will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at the Bethel Baptist Church, Pineville, with Rev. John Clark, Rev. Thomas Simmons and Rev. Robert Cornett.
Interment will be in the East Barbourville Cemetery, Barbourville, KY. Pallbearers will be Edward Ballinger, Richard Blackburn, Raymond Cloud, Billy Dye, Curtis Ferguson, Jr., Bobby Ray Hendrickson, Harold Hill, Christian Trent and Ricky Washington. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Steven Morgan, The London District Church Association of Ministers and Deacons and the McDonald’s Coffee Club Members and employees. The family extends a sincere thank you to the staff of the Pineville Community Hospital and the University of Kentucky Medical Center.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 9 PM on Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home, Pineville.
